Learn To Play The Rite Way

What we Teach & How we Teach It

I love to teach golf! I love to help students reach goals that exceed their expectations.  Nothing is more gratifying than getting a call from a student, declaring “I GOT IT!!!”  You guys make it fun for me and I look forward to coming to work every day.
You know, the tag line for The GolfRite Learning Center is "Learn to play…the ‘Rite' Way!” Pretty catchy, you have to admit, but what does it mean?  It means it is OUR job at GolfRite to help you learn the proper fundamentals to ensure lasting improvement. It is OUR job to get your body in a position to perform the golf swing properly. It is OUR responsibility to help you reach your goals.  We welcome the challenge and continually strive to impart better understanding of how to play the game of golf!
When a student first comes to GolfRite, we provide a new student with a video swing analysis and game assessment. Why? We need to understand what a student is doing, and why they are doing it. We need to get to know them a little bit. We need to know where they have been, golf-wise, and where they want to go. Is a student swinging the club a certain way due to poor fundamentals, lack of understanding, poor instruction (unfortunately, this happens a lot more than we would hope), or physical limitations? We must understand the past before we can help the student move forward.
Once we have a grasp of where and why things are the way they are, I will make recommendations on how to help the student get better, both physically and golf-wise. The action plan may include full swing & short game sessions, along with on-course instruction.  Action plans are never the same: they are customized depending on the student goals and the level of commitment to those goals.
The most important element to game improvement is the student “buy-in”. A student MUST buy-in to the plan: without it, improvement is impossible.
Every lesson I give is different, with no two being the same.  Many times, the subject matter is similar (most of you know that I spend a ton of time with each student helping them get into the proper position at the top of the swing), but the manner in which I communicate the thoughts may be totally different from one student to another.
Good instruction is a combination of better understanding and communication.  If I have done my job correctly, a student will leave their lesson with two things: a clear understanding of what the old habits were; as well as an even clearer understanding of how to develop new habits. If a student can understand what lead to the bad habit, they are more open to accepting the changes needed to develop new, better and long-lasting habits.

Good communication is essential. Without good communication, you will not improve.  Rather, you will probably get worse. You will get confused, not being able to differentiate between what you were doing and what you should be doing.

Communicating the proper swing thought does not have to be complicated, rather, it should be just the opposite…it should be easily understood!  I try to use very simple terms to communicate complex swing mechanics.
Examples:
1) “To hit it high…touch the sky!” used for someone who may have to change their swing plane.
2) “Don't spill the margarita!”: short game thought to promote better club face control thru impact
3) “Take out the egg!”: a good thought when confronting a bunker shot
4) “Turn…and RE-Turn!” one of the simplest thoughts to get students to turn more, with compliments to Bob Crowley, one of New England's best pros!
5) “Four…NO MORE!” helps promote proper hand pressure.
If you are thinking of developing and implementing an improvement plan, this is a preview of what you can expect:  What to Teach & How to Teach It!

"Just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put into the lessons. Hard to believe that two months have passed already. Think the best evidence of your teaching ability is the comments I've received in the last week onthe driving range. Clearly the reps at Ping and Titleist and the guy at the Natick driving range have seen lots of good golf swings, so the fact that they went out of their way to make positive comments on my swing is a credit to you."

Skip,
After working with you I feel so much better! My irons are great and I'm no longer the shortest hitter in the group! Thanks for all your hard work.
